    Keyboard help please

    Hi

I have the most strange issue with my keyboard. It works in Bios, it works in safe mode, it works when I try to repair windows (repair files are added to a partition on the laptop - its how I bought it) but whenever windows boots normally, the keyboard won't work.

It is a built in keyboard to my laptop and the fact it works everywhere else tells me it's fine (just in case connectors were damaged I stripped it and had a look anyway).

    Things I have tried
    1) uninstalling the driver in safe mode - this reinstalls when I reboot but still no joy. The strange part is I do not think the driver files are corrupted because safe mode and normal mode seems to use TGIF same drivers (standard ps2).
    2) The manufacturer (HP Compaq) has no specific drivers which leads me to believe that standard ps2 is right but I reinstalled quick buttons -no joy
    3) there are no conflicts or yellow exclamation point in device manager
    4) the only thing I did was upgrade my AV (AVG 2013) so uninstalled -no joy.
    5) ran AV and MBAM and ran TDSS killer just in case - no virus or malware
    6) cleaned registry with Ccleaner -no joy
    7) no processes or startup items are unusual but I have killed /disabled just in case-no joy
    8) did a system restore (no joy)
    9) I had backed up the registry ages ago so I tried that -no joy
    10) Tried on battery and plugged in no battery in case the power is an issue -no joy

Please help before I throw it out the window!!!!!!!!

    Thanks in advance

Do you have an external (USB) device plugged into it?? Just a thought, it sounds like the PC thinks you have another keyboard you are using.
        Also, what OS ??

The only USB device I had was a iPhone cable which is now removed

          Windows 7

Can you borrow a usb keyboard to try? If it works, you know you need to hunt for whatever setting has been altered on your system.

The other thing is - are you CERTAIN the correct keyboard is selected under the "input language" tab??

I say this because a program I installed changed my UK keyboard to a US keyboard, no biggie, but a pain when trying to type email address's

USB keyboard works fine and the language settings are fine. I cannot fathom what setting has changed

I would try a format. Firstly I thought maybe a key was sticking but how it's working in safe mode ok it can't be.

Only other thing would be is remove the driver for it. Get the location from device manager

Are you sure you haven't pressed the FN (function) key? This in combo with another key can be a problem as to what the keys do. Have you tried to reset the function Key just to check?

I am pretty sure this is not the case as if the fn button was locked in the functions like fn f12 would turn off my wireless and it is fully unresponsive

I've seen where a driver is corupt and no matter what you do (update, renew or replace) will help. Mirosoft has a "corrupt file tool" that will solve that problem. I don't know about there (where you are) , but here MS just did hardware updates for drivers about a week ago.
