    dell 1520 hard dive queery

    Hi all any help appreciated, spilt coffee over my dell inspiron 1520 few days ago and have left it to dry out cleaned it etc,switched it on and got error reseat hard drive tried that and unfortunatly its goosed,so next thing i had to find out hard drive or motherboard ,luckily my son has a 1520 too so i took out his hard drive and put it in mine and worked fine got online etc,so thinking that buying a new hard drive should be ok,problem no vista back up cd is there a way i can get my sons vista on to a pen and put on my new hard drive and if so how?or do i have to err buy a new copy of vista remembering they are both inspiron 1520 any help or advice would be greatly appreciated tx

    ps have not bought new hard drive yet,so recomended places to buy and makes would also be great help hoping to pay about ?40 tx again

      The following link takes you to a legal download for vista.You will need the product key from the sticker on the underside of your laptop in order to activate the copy.It is in the form of an ISO image,what you need to do is - download the copy and then mount or burn it to a dvd.Run the install and input your product key when prompted.The link is --

      As for a hard drive all you need to do is make sure you buy the correct type to fit your laptop,it will be written on the drive itself (i. SATA or ESATA) etc etc.I regularly use Ebuyer for spares they are very good and not expensive,but buy the largest drive capacity you can afford.

          after downloading burn the iso to dvd or make a bootable usb key drive

              if you are going to put in a new hard drive then load win 7 and use a boot loader to overcome the windows activation as you do not have a key.
              i have used the untouched versions in the previous post with a loader and have not had any problems.
