i used to have this problem too and what i did was gently put some pressure on the front of template tray until the printer grabbed it

Clean rollers

Have you cleaned the pickup rollers with alcohol? That always helps if loading is the problem. Only takes a little slick film to slip and not load. It's a good idea to clean all the feed rollers with alcohol once a month (lint and stuff collect) anyway to prevent problems.

I have the Epsom p50 and was getting the same problem . When the tray is in the print position slightly lift the left hand side up about 3mm and it will load ,rollers are worn.
