    pc psu?

hi guys,my pc(powermate vl260 slim)is playing up.when i switch it on it only goes to the nec screen and freezes, sometimes nothing comes on the screen,i looked at the psu and found a capacitor with brown stuff on the top, would it be safe to try another psu from different pc or does it have to be the same spec as the original, thanx

yes u can change ur psu but has to be the same WATT or more than current

but before u change that have u tryed reseting the bios by removing the battery for 1 min or replacing the battery

    or

removing the ram then reinstalling it
& also the gfx card if separate from motherboard

and when was the last time u re-heatsinked ur cpu?

also when looking at capacitors your are looking for blown ones and if they are the old style (not caps) u will see/feel the bulg on the end of it

now it seems to happen when it unplugged from mains for about 30 seconds or more.
