PC Hard disc drive failure Dell vostro 200

Hi everyone have just encountered a problem with my dell vostro 200. When booting up Keep getting a message 'hard disc drive failure press f1 to continue f2 for setup' sometimes it will boot up but if it goes into standby it will not reboot. Have done various system checks including western digital drive analysis and everthing show up ok. I know this sounds strange but can a dodgy keyboard cause problems. Best regards Richard

Doubt very much it has anything to do with a dodgy keyboard. Try loading default settings in bios, or even remove CMOS battery from mobo for 30 mins, this will restore bios settings to default. Have you tried the drive in another computer?

If you can get into the PC remove the SATA cable linking the hard drive to the motherboard and reinsert again or try a different SATA port on your motherboard. Then reboot and go into your BIOS screen to make sure the hard drive is listed then save and exit.

Hi everybody. Well have tried all suggestions but to no avail. But heres a conundrum. If on start up I select boot menu and scroll down to sata 0 then hit the enter button and repeat this operation a couple of times it will then boot up and provided I don't allow the pc to go into sleep mode it will work all day long. If it goes into to sleep mode it will then crash. Oh the joys of a love affair with PC's. All the best Richard

              Hi
it sounds hdd smart detected some issues on surface of yours hdd, run hdd sentinel from i.e. hirens boot, and check health of hdd, but from my experience backup your data and get new hdd as your o/s will be unstable.

yep also sounds to me you have some bad sectors on your HD and S.M.A.R.T is trying to bypass it.

I would boot it up, save your data and replace HD very very soon
