tried loading windows 7 from xp all i get is bootmgr is missing tried com repair , com promt dwnloding new disk doin my ed in help please

Go into the bios and under settings in main thers a setting it sounds like yours is set to achi mode ie for win 7 and vist. Change this setting to ide and save .Then ave another go it should good to go now m8..........................I know you believe you understand what you think i said

hi got into install or repair i av tried intall again all i got was corrupt or missing file error code 0x80070017
tried repair but no os to click on to repair proper doing my head in now
wot do you mean wen u say achi mode sorry for being a bloomer im not too clever with computers

it could be that the disk you are installing from is corrupt that is causing the error code, use one of the iso here http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums...64-bit-220877/ which ever version you are trying to install and burn it to disc then you can use the product key to validate it.sigpicComment

The error code means the data leaving the disk is different from the data being transferred to the hard drive.
A would do what Lagerland suggested as i see this often with older machines.
By switching to IDE, Windows will load the required driver during install for data transfer and update the registry.
