As long as win xp disc is correct.

Set bios to boot from cd/dvd drive 1st.
    2nd insert win xp disc.
    Reboot
when it says press any key to boot from cd/dvd, press any key.

When it gets to selecting hard drive. Delete all partitions and format before installing

Thats what I was wondering, if when it reboots after install and it says "press a button to boot from cd" either a button is being pressed or a button is stuck down so it tries installing again rather than being left to go onto the next boot drive being the HDD thus windows starting up

Try ejecting the cd when its going through the re-boot to force it to boot from HDD

ok guys thanks for ur input on this matter, but i think i need to explaine wots happend here,,, my son has a laptop and he asked me if i would put windows7 on it, i said yes so i started the install and all was goin fine until it suddenly stoped it didant complete, so only half the program installed now when i try to boot it it keeps looping but not booting to hdd, so i htought i would put xp back on as that was wot was on before, so i have downloaded a copy of xp but when i go to install it and i know how to do that it just keeps sayin... NO BOOTABLE CD IN ATAPI CD-ROM cant seem to get past thst error, so is there some kind of bootable cd/ software i could get to clear the drive so i can re, install xp? i have been going round in circles with this now for what seems like forever..cheers..chris....

                Re: wipe drive

If it's not booting from a disk... I would suspect the cd drive, or your disks.
Try an install with an external disk drive, or maybe a usb stick.

                  Re: wipe drive

Sounds like the version of xp you have does not have your sata drivers in. This was common about when vista came out out.

These can be manually inserted into xp. Do some googling on make an model on how to get xp on. You can always load tbe drivers during xp setup.

I got a copy with drivers in a while back an kept hold of it

I know you've started a few topics on this and I believe the laptop is an Evesham 8375 from memory, its quite an old laptop and I don't believe it is sata driven

As I mentioned in a previous topic its possibly the cd drive and said to google how to create a bootable USB stick and install from that, or get hold of another copy of xp as the one you have maybe corrupt.

You need to try these things and then report back before we can go any further

Ok, I'm not sure if this is the right version. But I stremlined the Sata drivers into a copy of XP sp3.

                      You're welcome to try it.

If it's not XP or the sata drivers still don't work, PM me. It's listed as 'My Stuff' with no description. I'm hardly going to describe a copy of XP correctly am I....

Yes you could wipe the HDD clean from Hirens.

However if its a case of drivers aint in XP for your setup then it will fail again.

Have you considered putting ubuntu on it?

Download Hirens here - Download Hiren?s BootCD 15.2 | HBCD Fan & Discussion Platform - go to near the bottom of the page - DONT click the big green button with DOWNLOAD in it as this is not it - underneath the green download is another green bar with the actual download link next to a piccy of a hard drive.

Find it strange that even though you got half of 7 on and then crashed that you now cant install XP so i suppose you havent got anything to loose by booting with hirens and doing a wipe

I mentioned in a previous post of yours that it was probably lack of memory as 7 really requires 1gig ram and as your lapper is old it would have come with either 256 or 512

You could check the upgrade possibilities of the ram and see if your lapper will take 1gig ram and then try installing 7 again. but personnaly considering the age of the lapper you'd be better sticking with XP
