since reformat and upgrading to windows 8 my computers gone very slow wont even play 1080p mkv file without jittering everything played fine and was faster before windows 8 when i had windows7 can anybody help

Just something to try - change power options from balanced to high performance
If its VLC your using, it's WAY behind on the latest tweaks to the codecs/containers/subtitle formats etc, It's great for loading any general or random old video files but when playing the latest stuff it chokes a lot, macro block explosions etc
Make sure you have all the latest drivers
You could also try installing media player classic
