if you have a crossover cable you can link them mate, via ftp if you want as well... other than that a nice big USB stick, 32gb like i keep is what you need...

      Depends on the Operating System

If you have a crossover cable or a network hub (most routers have one) then it might be easier sharing out the data on the laptop and then copying the files using Windows Explorer. If you have username and password on either machine the whole process is a lot easier if you give both machines the same username and password.

When you reformat the disk, it often makes sense to partition the drive with (for example) a 10gb program drive and a 20gb data drive - that way if you need to reinstall the operating system in future, you only have to wipe drive C: and the data stays in polace.

Another option would be an external drive (USB) that you could just leave attached after you have moved the data on to it.

      Cheers,

I have IDE and SATA USB caddy for drives so it makes it easier to transfer or keep large files.

I'm guessing you're plugged in or wified up to broadband, in which case you just need to know the administrator password and the drive your data is on:

            \\computername\c$ (change c$ if C: isn't your drive letter)

then you'll have access to the drive and you can copy it over.

Look up 'xcopy.exe' on google as well, it does a better job than copying things in explorer.
