Why do I have to re-boot router for windows 8 to connect ?

I'm using my old sony vaio lappy (windows vista) just because it still runs perfect although its about years old, which will connect to the internet anytime anywhere anyhow when it or modem/router on on or off without restarting etc, basically any minor interuptions and it just logs back on whenever the wifi signal is there.

Now my good wife has had a new lappy with windows 8 and if she turns on her lappy when the modem and router are already on, we have to turn off the router then restart it and then her lappy connects to the internet fine.

Basically.....if she turns lappy on first, then modem + router, lappy connects fine, but if modem + router are turned on first, then her new lappy, the lappy wont connect to internet without turning off the router and then turning it back on.

Is this a pain in the arse thing about windows 8 (as there are many pains in the arse on windows 8) or is there a setting that can help that I cant find, though i have looked and new lappy seems to be set up pretty much the same as my old thing.......

thanks guys and gals for any help

from control panel open network and sharing
this should show your Wi-Fi router
right click on router and select properties
tick the box that says connect automatically when this network is in range

    Working...
