firewalls should not slow your connection down.

some routers are picky with internet connections because they dont always pick up the full speed of the internet at setup like linksys and belkin etc.

you might need to reset the router and
update the firmware on the router. check with the speed sites after updating it to confirm your speed like Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test

well i was on 20mbps and it slowed it right down turn the firewall off bingo turned it back on slow down again

then the firewall is not setup right its blocking the internet connection and ports that it uses which you have to add to an list on the firewall to allow the internet to work properly with firewall on.
