    ACER laptop drives locked

    hi all,

my nephew has a Acer 5315 laptop and has locked his disk drive and usb with the acer elock management tool. he cannot remember the password, is there a way to unlock it?
Acer want ?50 for a disc to unlock it.

I have heard that this works for cd drives and usb, although I have not tried it!
    Right click "My Computer"
    "Manage"
    "Storage"
    "Disk Management"
right click on the cd or usb drive and change the drive letter,
    close and restart.
It must be worth a try although I would NOT go changing the Hard Drive from C:\

    Good luck

i have uninstalled the eLock and he has access to the usb drives now, but the cd drive does not show up when my computer is opened. it is in the device manager. by the way its running Vista.

Try it the way I described above, if it is listed give it a drive letter and see if it appears in my computer.

thanks gmcmen, that worked a treat. the drive had no letter assigned to it. give it a "E" and everything is rosey.
