Does anybody know any tricks to spped up slow cable internet

none that are particularly legal, hence cant really be discussed.

legal things i can think of off the top of my head would include:

moving the modem closer to the cablepoint, using less cable will lower your attenuation and speed things up.
using Ethernet cables (cat6e (screened and fully shielded) spec correctly wired for best results) over wifi.
limiting your upload to 80% of your cap also speeds up downloads by allowing room for protocol overheads.

rerouting all your cables away from any sources of elecrical noise.

other than that its just hacks which are completely illegal.

what do u mean 'slow' whats slow? have u tried speedtest to check your speed?

if you're on 2mb, they're doing free upgraded to 10mb at the mo, but to be honest i was always happy with 2mb!

if you're talking torrents from places like piratebay, they'll never often max out but private torrent sites are usually better. even then, you'll never got 100% speed, 100% of the time
