Help Required Overclocking.

Hi Guys,

I need help trying to overclock my pc from 2.4GHz to 3.6GHz. My pc specifications are as follows;

Antec 300 case
Asus P5KC Motherboard
Intel Q6600 Quad-core (G0 Stepping)
4gb OCZ Reaper 1066MHz RAM
Antic Freezer Pro 7
BFG GTX260 OCX Maxcore 896MB
EZ Cool 700W Tornado PSU

I have never overclocking. So I guess this would be a great learning experience.

Do some reading up on the subject before you jump in m8

You have a good spec surely thats fast enough??

If not then remember its a balance between speed and heat output

unfortunatly the more of the first one you want the more you get of the second so better solutions for cooling start to happen such as water etc

Hydrogen is the best but tricky to administer

Do you research there is plenty of overclocking sites out there

Why would you need to o/c that setup?

The q6600 is overcloable quite easily but that setup is a nice 1, why not set up a raid 0 on it with 2 32mb cache hdds.

My set up is:

asus p5ql-e
q6600
4gb dominator 1066
xfx 280 1gb
Raid 0
Win 7 x86

Runs well so i no need to oc it

The reason for it has that I do alot of picture editing and designing in CAD.

Also do alot movie rippings.

I'm on OcUK forums as AndyOcUK and I've helped numerous people with this. I used to have the same CPU on an Asus Striker 2 Extreme at 4.0GHz

first of all, you have to check if your ram have the power that need (I think that ocz heaper want 2.1Volt and the default is 1.8)
then you have to go to bios and increase the voltage
to overclock, firstly you will play with FSB, increase FSB from 266 to 300 for example! you have to increase it with steps to check that your system is stable and then to increase more.... you cannot go from 2,4GHz to 3,6 without any try...
then when you increase the fsb you have to run benchmark software (for example prime95) to see that it is stable, if not, maybe you have to increase a bit the NB voltage!!!!
and buy a good cpu cooler, because with the stock one, it can work on 3,2GHz but the temperature will be about 55C or 60C
