Laptop only works with AC power?

    Hi,
I have an issue with my Dell laptop, with that it only works when plugged into the mains.

The battery has been replaced and shows as 56% full on the power options, but doesn't seem to charge past this.

The laptop won't turn on without the AC adapter even thought the battery is at 56%, and as soon as you unplug the AC adapter the laptop turns off.

    Is the motherboard shot?

    Thanks,
Don't let failure go to your heart, don't let success go to your head.

First check your charger and battery in bios .
    Second try another charger

Sounds very much like the battery mate, Had similar problem with daughters laptop.....her battery was showing 100% charged but it would only work on mains. Theres some videos on youtube about re-calibrating the battery to the laptop (take battery out, plug in and switch on without battery, insert battery,restart,etc..) but tried a few things on daughters but still no joy. It was a faulty battery in the end (new one on way thankfully)
