so you have reloaded your PC/laptop with windows XP and it has only left you with a C: drive and your D: has gone..... Is the new C: the full size of the disk or is their some space that is unallocated to it that is the same size as your missing D: ? Before we rush ahead with ideas to do this and do that, its best we establish what you have to save you wasting your time with other ideas until we know what you have...

        Making a 'D' partition or D: drive

OK.. I starting writing a tutorial oh how to do this for you, basically setting your C: partition size while installing windows.. But google showed their to be hundreads of tut already make and some videos as well..

So if you want to re- install and do it that way its easy enough... just google 'XP partition'

However as you have already reloaded you will want to just resize the C: partiton and create yourself a D:... This is best done with third party software like Acronis Disk Director or Partition MAgic...

Both these third party apps are available for free this boot CD... DOwnload the iso fromthis link, make a CD and boot from it... the menu will dive you options, once inthe main boot CD menu you will see both the apps i have mentioned above.. just choose one of these and follow it through, you can't really go wrong as you have only just reloaded your computer etc.. both these app are surprisingly easy to work with and will allow you resize your C down to whatver size you choose. You will then be able to create a new primary partition inthe new free space you have created. These chnages are no implemeted until your click on 'commit' ..

Download this Hiren BootCD V9.9 from the third post, it has so many tools and will allow to fix namy problems with your puter, it can also be run in windows giving you a different menu of different apps to the boot menu list...

            Lost Partition

Help. I've accidently deleted a partition. I had Vista on C and win 7 on D. I tried to delete D using Spotmau and lost C. . I then got operating system not found. I used Active@ Partition Recovery to recover partition table and finally managed to boot into win 7 with a little help from a win 7 install dvd. I can now see my lost partition but it shows as unallocated. What now? I need to recover files from lost partition. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I can only talk for Win XP, but maybe it's the same for Win 7.

You need to go Control Panel/Administitive Tools/Computer Management/Disk Management and you should then see partition that is unallocated. You just need to allocate it and that should be job done.
