you load the laptop with XP as normal, try a recent one with SP3 included or at leasdt slipstreamed into it.. However before you start go tthe the deveice driver website of the company that manufactured the laptop and download the appropriate sata drivers first...

Most SATA drives are picked up by a XP SP3 disk so long as it is a single drive, not a RAID setup. Does your laptop have a floppy drive?

Another option would be to search the net for a copy of Black XP. That has almost everything integrated including many apps and most drivers.

you could use nlite to slipstream the driver into xp installation files. Off course you have to burn over the cd. Go in device manager and look under scsi and raid controllers for the model of your sata controller. Then google and download it.
