desk top pc not working..

i have a Advent GX9000 running on windows xp all working fine till last night when i got Norton 360 to do a comprehensive scan and i clicked the button for Norton to shut down the computer when finished as this scan could take a long time to do...

when i came back from work 2day i turned on the PC it started to load up as normal, but when it got to the point where you see the loading lights flash from side to side they stop then nothing else happens, the monitor then displays a message saying no signal but the PC is still running as though nothing is wrong, but all i see is a blank screen..
i then took it to PC world were they said do a system reinstall by pressing F10 as soon as the computer is turned on, but again nothing happens when i press F10 repeatedly..

any ideas any1?

do oyou have a windows cd? Boot from there, enter recovery console and run a check disk by typing chkdsk /r

Or did they say F8 brings up the windows diagnostic menu, you can enter safe mofe and do a system restore.

Could be a problem with your video drivers. I would do as cunny says and do system restore in safe mode.

when i turn on the PC the advent logo comes up and at the bottom of the screen it says press delete to enter setup(which works but a don't have a clue what this dose) then i get the windows xp loading strobe lights,that finishes but nothing works after that.. i have to repeatedly press F10 (as per manufactures instructions) as soon as i turn on the computer to gain access to system recovery.but this dose not work i just keep on getting a blank screen but the PC runs as though nothing is wrong?

and i don't have any installation Cd's for the PC!!!

if no one knows whats wrong, where is the best place to take it, as i was robbed the last time by someone out of the yellow pages fixing a virus i had on it.

Just before it comes up with the XP flash screen try pressing F8(function key F8) and see if you can load into Safe Mode. If you manage to get into Safe mode than do Start > Programs > Accesories > System tools > System restore and do restore from a few days earlier.

can't get into safe mode or any othe options all it keeps on doing is looping from the main advent logo screen to the safe mode options screen. i have tryed last known good configeraion and all the other safe mode options and still nothing just keeps on looping?

You need to run a chkdsk /r from the recovery console, to do this:

insert win xp disc.
Boot from it.
Enter recovery console
select win instalation
type admin password if 1 set, if not leave blank.
type the command (chkdsk /r)
Leave it running could take a while

try this clear your cmos open box look for 3 pins with jumper
on it move it one pin to the right or left clear cmos leave for 15 secs and then put back this will set ur board back to manufactures settings reboot if this dosent work reinstall windows

I'm pretty sure the board is fine, as OP has said he has had a virus in the past so most likely a virus has corrupted his hard drive.

OP you really do need a copy of XP, as well as drivers for your hardware. Maybe you can download a copy of Windows XP (I won't comment further on this as I'm not too sure what the rules say about this kind of thing.)

Will you need to recover your files at all? If so, do not format your computer as you will lose them. There are ways, some more efficient than others, to backup important files from a corrupted HDD.

Anyways if you can't get hold of a copy of XP, download Hiren's Boot CD, and let us know how you get on.

im sure the board is fine. I gave this as a possible solution
because norton may have deleted a registry setting that may have effected some of the other hardware causeing the comp not to boot properly so clearing cmos defaults the board this has worked for me in the past

The bios is fine, if it was not then there would be no video out so why reset?

The hard drive has an error that is preventing windows from loading thats why i have posted a fix.

If the hard drive is partitioned with a recovery, use the correct method to restore the hard drive to factory settings.

thanks for all your response but had to take it to a shop in the end, and they said some files had been deleted on start up mode what eva that means all good.

download and run malewarebytes and delete norton and install avg free
