    Vista updates

I recently installed a copy of Vista Ultimate from a disk given to me by a mate, no key but i activated using an activator downloaded from net. everything works fine so far (10 days). My Q is will it be safe to update Vista or are there any specific updates to avoid

all updates are there to make the o/s run better whether to patch vunrabilitys and make it more secure, as you have no valid licence key the updates may not install so avoiding any may not come into question.

you wont get updates from windows and also you may likely get locked out of your system for not activing windows.
