pc crashed all together this morning could boot a os in either harddrive
tryed to boot a xp disk then is said missing or corupt file
could do shit
had to boot a ubuntu live cd to save some files
goto put ubuntu on to format 1 of the drive
thats as far as i got
rant over for now

what was the corrupt/missing file because you could proberly replace or restore it with recovery console if we knew what file it was.

did you try recovery console with the xp disc

load xp disc

press R
press 1
enter your account/administrator password

commands

fixmbr - fixes the master boot record
fixboot- fixes the boot setup

sorry i should of made it clearer it was a copy of xp i downloaded a while back for emergencies
wasnt a xpdisk
the missing file was> windows root system32 ntoskrnl exe file

ok if thats the only file missing just use the xp disc you have to fix it np if dont have a cd try and burn one.

load the disc
press R
press 1
enter password for account/adminstrator ( if D:\ not the drive change the letter)
type expand d:\i386\ntoskrnl.ex_ c:\windows\system32
press y to overwrite then restart then your back in windows

still wouldnt work reapers
so i had to install ubuntu
to format so i could start again with a different copy of xp sp3 i just borrowed
thats seems to be installing ok at the minute
i may need your services again in a bit
just keeps rebooting when loading disk then press r press1

you need to be logged into the correct version of windows as the moderator to do it.

Or if nothing there worth saving do a complete format and instal

sorted i downloaded a copy of xp from the software section burned the iso using ubuntu on me old laptop that took me 2 hours to work that out
then installed me upgrade copy of vista all back to normal
