desktop problem.

The wife has a Sony laptop, every time she closes a site or programme, she looses her desktop. All that is shown is a white screen. To get the desk top back, she has to press the start key, then this will reveal a desktop icon in the tray, click on that and the desktop is back.
The OS is Vista.

if the problem has only started occuring and you it never used to happen before well then i would suggest that you do a System restore as this will set the machine back to when it was working properly... Dont worry you wont lose any work at all...

yip system restore should get it goin ,,also get a anti/virus on it

Thank for your input guys, should have mentioned that I had already tried that.
But problem is now solved.
Found the source of the blank screen went into c drive deleted file, problem solved.
