    CD/DVD Rom Drivers Help

    Hi guys can anyone help me get the driver for my dvd drive on my lappy??I have been trying for ages with no luck.its a matshita(panasonic)uj845s or so iam told

    you dont need one, theres no need for drivers for hard drives, optical drives and the like.

    They just interface directly with atapi or scsi.

        If i dont need the drivers then why wont the dvd/cd rom drive work???

          Probably a fault with it. Can you hear it trying to load the disc etc

          Spinning or hear the laser moving?

            no the misses deleted some stuff & since then no worky a scan shows no drivers and says i need uj845s!!!!!

                Actually thats not a driver , its a firmware. Updating the firmware might fix the problem if the drive is visible to windows and just gets difficulty reading new cds /dvds.

                boxxie1, i think you need to give more information regarding your problem , simply saying it doesnt work doesnt give much info about the problem.

                Does the drive show up in my computer and simply not reading discs ?
                Drive doesnt show at all ?

                    It could be drive itself is malfunctioning. To rule out possible hardware problem or firmware problem with the Drive unit lets try few stuff in windows.

                    Firstly can you uninstall the drive from windows control panel and then restart the computer and wait for windows to try reinstalling the DVD-Drive unit.

                        If you scroll down the page you can see registry editing for both Vista and Windows XP. Please backup your registry before editing.

                        From Microsoft itself.

                          you are an absolute star it took about 10 seconds to download, install & run the fix rebooted and all sorted thanx again
