    Hope someone can help here my daughters lappy will not play DVD's or CD's, she's on vista and about 18 months old. thanks in advance

      if its visible and it played them before you may have romoved the codecs by mistake in which case you will have to reinstall them.

        If it is codecs I've used this site before for the same problem

        Download Vista Codec Package 5.4.0 - With this package installed, you shouldn't need to install any other codec or filter - Softpedia

                Ok Guy's tried the codec thing but when you load a dvd it does not show that there is anything in the dvd drive

                  did it play DVD/CD before and now when you go to my computer the drive shows no disc in it.

                    Can you please confirm the below;

                    Drive Read CD/CDR discs
                    Drive reads DVD/R discs but not movies.
                    Drive doesnt read any cds or DVDS
                    The DVD/R works in another computer.
                    Can you see the files in the DVD/R when you go my computer, etc etc...

                    As with all problems you have to create a list of possibilities and start testing to be able to find the problem.
