Hard Drive Image Software Help Neeeeded !

    Hiya Guys,

for a couple of years now i have been using Acronis True Image software to take Images of hard drives of friends & familys computers i have re-formatted before in the past. it just saves me alot of time when it comes to wiping their machine & re-installing all the software etc including my computer as well.

Problem i have is that the each time i try to restore a image now it throws back a error at me each time basically sayin the Image is corrupt! when its worked before in the past & just decides when it wants to work really.

So im lookin for a New Imaging Software to use that is basically Reliable!!! any recommendations at all ????

Now, i have alot of images that are currently in the Acronis True Image V.10 format and i want to be able to find software that is compatible in restoring that file type too. does anyone know of such a program & have used one that is RELIABLE most importantly as this is driving me mad just now!

I am not Keen on Using Norton Ghost as i think its just Shite! to be quite honest.. so any idea's other than that im egar to hear about it!

    Thanks in advance guys...

    Street.

Honest, use Ghost. it's on Hiren's bootCD.

u can split the images into chunks (650mb to fit on CD's) or even burn straight to DVD's. it's such a great tool and we used to use it for years at work imaging 100's of machines every year ( i work at a uni) - we know use altiris for remote management

i would guess that .tib files will only be useable with acronis... It is a very good product and I am surprised you are having issues with it.. I would be mored inclined to suggest that your Acronis installation is now dicked and the save images also..

Have you had a read through the acronis help site... Knowledge Base

Well, i have always used Acronis, but am have drama's with it now & its headin in the direction for a change. it drives me mad when i can't reload a image & waste hours tryin to source the problem & come up with nothing.. kinda puts me in a bad mood after.. because a computer has got the better of me haha.

I have downloaded Ghost 14 so i might try that.. i also have a couple of other more recent versions of Acronis, but i am reluctant to use it considering the problems its presented to me on many occasions.

any links to a known good working Acronis.. please feel free to let me know & ill give it another go, but i wont be holding my breath.

I've been using an enterprise version of Acronis for the last 2 years. Just last month I tried to verify, then restore a .tib image that someone brought to me. I too got the corrupt image message. This was solved when I figured out that this particular .tib image was made with a home version of Acronis. I then restored successfully with the same home version that the backup was made with. A rule of thumb is that you should generally try to backup and restore with the same version of Acronis. Definitely don't mix home and enterprise versions. I hope this helps someone.

I have used Acronis for years and now have Acronis 2010 latest one out and the difference is astounding, the backup speed is fantastic, lots of bugs removed .
and always validate your backups after imaging them this is good advice.

Have acronis that came with an apricorn universal adapter kit and its been the best way to backup, restore, mirror, etc. I did have to repair the installation once though. I would think the error is more likely a fault with the backup storage medium (error on hd). If there is a problem with the storage copy try separating the storage files or perhaps update your Apricorn software.

                              There's always Clonezilla - 100% free & regularly updated.
Runs from CD, with a textmode interface.
