upgrading laptops to Wireless N

I took out my 54g mini pci card from my samsung r40 laptop and replaced it with an N for the increased speed.
I was issued with a free seimans wifi g router by tiscali when i joined them around 10 months ago but wanted to try N.
I bought a linksys WAG325N router and then set about replacing the mini pci in the laptop. as it happens I did not have to remove everything just a few covers on the back but of course you need a third antenna as the g only had 2 and the N has 3.
The company on Ebay who I bought the N card from sent me the third antenna which plugs on via a tiny socket.
The biggest problem I found was trying to get this third wire antenna into the laptop without just bundling the wire into a ball and sticking it in as if you can keep it reasonably in a length it will give you a better transmit and receive. I managed to prize of a plastic trim that went under the screen and fed the extra antenna wire up to it keeping it as long as possible.
All went quite resonable and gave me a 275mps.
One thing to note though to handshake at wifi N you need to have 2 items at least as a wifi N router will use G if N is not available,,,,,, It goes like backwards compatable.

its not the actual driver thats bad its the driver setting.

like i said most default to G mode you need to tell it to run in N mode.

Under settings/network connections/[your wifi connection/configure (a button under the card name)/advanced then you just need to change ad hoc and wireless modes to default to N

Quick update. I tried the above, but there was no 'N' mode listed, and was racking my brains as to what the problem could be - so I decided to take the card out and have a look at it. Under a secondary HP sticker, the model number was printed....... 4965AG........NOT AGN! The chap on ebay sent me the wrong card! Typical! Still, that would explain why I couldn't get more than 54mbps

I read the first part of this thread with interest as I did exactly the same with two of my laptops, however it was a lot easier the second time as I was prepared for the wire issue that also confronted Chroma. I wanted to encourage you as I had no Bios issues and that seemed to be what was holding you back but then didnt get chance to catch up with the thread - I am pleased you went for it and succeeded!
