Ram in a pc HAS to be of a type and speed that is listed as compatible with the motherboard or else it will be ignored as if it's not there at all.
Check the motherboard specifications online by searching for the name and version number printed on the motherboard, this will tell you the type and speed of RAM that it will accept. Then check that the RAM you have meets the specs listed. If the RAM does not match then you will have to change it for a stick that meets the specs.

      Ok thanks for that
I think i have just spotted the problem with DRAM Frequency and Memory Timings
      Edited original capture link

To me it looks like the timing is set wrong to work at 400mhz
should be a 6 not a 5 at the beginning

So by last post is it booting?

I would also check for motherboard bios updates for memory updates

That is absoloutly bang on. If, the ram in question does not support the RAM then it wont boot. However vendors sometimes update their bios's to acccept more memory, Hence why i asked if the bios is upto date.

So search motherboard details, check supported RAM and that there are no more bios updates.

I read the specs from HP http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/p...1574818#N10013

                    Technology and Features

Memory Type PC2-6400 DDR2 SDRAM (800MHz) non-ECC Up to 16 GB system memory standard.

4 slots on the board so assumed it could handle 4GB sticks

The link i posted would make more sense as the system is not booting, personally id send it back and populate with 2gb dimms

Its just very strange how the spec shows capable of 16GB and my SIW showing the same
                        Thanks for the help guys
Am gonna have to try this ram in another machine if i can find one

The motherboard probably will accept four 4gig sticks BUT they HAVE to be two matched pairs.
I,E two sticks could be used of 4gigs each but they must be a pair that are the same in every respect.
The same is true if you put four sticks in, all four must be identical in every way.
Not a lot of people know that memory sticks actually communicate with each other once initialised therefore if they are sticks that do not match they cannot communicate and so will not function.
One or more sticks would be treated by the system as though they are not installed. This could be your issue.

Before i started upgrading the dx7500 it had only 1GB of Kingston
And in my personal machine i have 3GB installed 1 matched pair Elpida and the Kingston from the upgrade and its seeing and using it

Also at Cruical all they offer for dx7500 is 4GB kit
                            where's the 16GB kit?
Find compatible DRAM memory and SSD upgrades for your PC or Laptop with our Crucial Advisor tool or Crucial System Scanner.

I wouldn't place too much confidence in the Crucial memory scanner.
I have a totally different pc to you and on running the scanner I got the same results for memory as you did.
Go by what the motherboard manufacturer states on their web site, I always do and have never had issues.
