Vista wont install updates

About 3 weeks ago my laptop was installing updates. For some reason it crashed and now it says I haven't installed them. When I try to it says updates failed. I've tried everything I can think of, registry scan, searching for the name of the update to uninstall it but I can't find it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

have you looked inthe control panel - add/remove programs and ticked the 'show updates' box to see what the last update was?

After doing some digging on the web, I think it's because my PC cut off before it had time to register the software/updates. I've used Registry Easy to re-register all the files but it's obviously not seeing them.

I've downloaded Google Desktop and I've searched for the update but it can't find it anywhere on my system.

Its possible what you ve said about the registry, by any chance did you try system restore to the point where system was working fine.

Can you post a screenshot of the window where it says updates failed to get a better understanding of the error / problem itself.

Also check in ( you might need to enable "show hidden files first"

"C:\Users\(your username)\Appdata\Local\WindowsUpdate"

You should see following ;

"OptIn", "AuthCab", & then "tempauthcab.cab"

If there are other files there please list them here.

It wont let me take a screen shot. There is no "snipping tool" on my Vista (it's a legal one).
The error I get initially is 800BO100. It just says failed to install updates. I've exhausted the microsoft website options. Looking online it seems loads of people are having the same problem and Microsoft tell them to reinstall the operating system.

I've checked the files and only have OptIn, inside that Authcab and inside that Tempauthcab. Inside that I have Authorization.

It's a nightmare.

Try to update as usual and when error comes up simply click on printscrn key on the keyboard , this will take a snapshot of your desktop , then lauch paint program Start>accesories>paint then goto edit > paste , then simply save the file as .png if possible to reduce filesize. If you have private things you dont want us to see simply cutout the error dialog box using marquee tool and copy & paste again into new paint file save again.

Also have you tried Windows Installer CleanUp Utility?

It wont screen print. I've downloaded a utility to do it and that doesn't work. Although I'm the owner and sole user of this laptop, I've never been the administrator, don;y know why. Could that be why?

It just says failed 7 updates, windows encountered an error. Error code 800Bo100

Also, I've downloaded the Windows Utilliity and that can't see the updates that wont load.

I'll just download Windows 7 I think and see how that works for me.

try system restore prior to your problem then turn of automatic updates and update manually.

I do and it is. I've tried a WGA patch that supposedly removes the validation bit but it has had no effect. I still get warning messages.

if its office 2007 thats causing problems remove it then try updating your o/s, if you want an office software try using open office its free and stop using dodgy copies.
