184 pin mem prob

hi guys, can someone help me with this prob, my comp runs on 184 pin ram and both my slots are full, prob is its still running slow, is there anyway I can upgrade the ram so it speeds up abit? also I have been doing some research and it seems anything above 1gb 184 pin ram is server ram, how do I know that my comp wont run on server ram as I thought all 184 pin ram was server ram, is there any way round this..
