So you did not get a restore CD or manual when it was stolen I mean bought... check underneath the laptop and find the model number (not that this will help you now, but will help us find info and detail to assist you)..

on boot up fress F10 and do a system restore from the recovery partition...

if you do need a new disk do you not have any vista install disks at all? they're easy to find on torrent sites all you have to do is look! then you can get the drivers off the advent website.

This has happened to me when buying an advent laptop or computer they often do not give recovery disks or vista ones they ask you to make a back up CD yourself what i did was take it into curry's and they reinstalled vista for me by copying the same models back up and using that as a recovery disk. What i suggest is download a torrent of a vista installation using isoHunt - the BitTorrent and P2P search engine then burn the iso to a disk or try from the place you bought it they might repair it if you have insurance or a receipt its worth a try.

my friend had an hp desktop where he had to burn his own recovery disk, and they only let him do it once. I assume they do this so they can save 10p per machine by getting you to pay for your own DVD. Cheapskates.

                  The Same Issue

My Daughters laptop is saying exactly the same thing, I have tried to get into the sysyem recovery by pressing f8 but it wont go into it, just comes back to the problem screen stating " windows failed to start, a recent sofrtware or hardware change might be the cause, to fix the problem insert windows installation disk and restart your computer.

Its the windows boot configuration file which has something missing so wont start up, but it wasnt sold with any disks as they were all on the recovery section of the harddrive, which I now cant access. Can anyone help please. The computer is an advent model 61ai50010-10 and the operating system is windows 7.
