    computer wont run some programs

went to put new hard drive in computer with original one on an ide system. Old hard drive was full (80gb) got a 500gb one. Put jumpers on both old one as master and new one as slave went to boot up system and wouldnt even turn on. reset jumper on new one to master and installed xp system no problem but when i install one of my programs which has a sentinel dongle emulator all installs but wont run. In set up on bios i have two 256mb of ram totalling 512mb. when i boot up computer on start up screen it only sees 256mb is this why that program wont run this program if so is it a setting in bios or motherboard faulty or ram faulty. Please help as i have spent all weekend on this and gone backward, much much thanks in advance

when you put in your new hard drive originally did you put them on the same ide channel (both hd connected to the same cable) which is what you do with master and slave?

as for the ram if you had bad ram fitted the pc would not boot.

have you still got your old hd in your pc or have you taken it out and just got your new one fitted?

      problem

Put them both on same cable labeled master and slave. Old hard drive on its own as master intermittently doesnt boot and said sis vga had to close in pop up box then you would try to restart and wouldnt boot. New hard drive on own as master will boot till you put program on it that has dongle emulator then that intermittently doesnt boot, and program will not run. Looks like in computer there are 2 sticks of ram both 256mb. If one stick went down would it do this as dongle emulator probably requires more ram to boot the same time as program? thanks for reply

reading your last post am i right in thinking that you still have the two hard drives fitted both as master correct me if i am wrong.

as far as the ram goes have you tried both sticks individually to test them to see if they are ok.

what does your dongle emulator do?

If on IDE check maximum hard drive supported size in motherboard manual. IF no manual google the model number.

No i have just new one, install xp no problem install autodata 3.18 (2007, no dongle) no problems runs mint install sentininall dongle for autodata 3.24(2009). install autdata 3.24 wontrun exe file has to close, same program works mint on laptop AMD Sempron 2.1ghz, 2.0 gb ram, my workshop computer is AMD Duron 1.8ghz, 512 ram. Do you think if get more ram may cure problem. What puzzles me is autodata with dongle youst to work before this but did crash intermittently as was very slow

                    install.exe

before dongle is activated says cd expired, when dongle activated says adcda2.exe has encountered problem and had to close. If you then Install.exe after dongle activation 3.24 starts saying about that integer thing as if installing in vista?

I think maybe computer bit too slow, and software not properly sorted if i got more ram would that help ?

if u havent formated your first drive that was full , can u not delete the extras off it that made it full and boot back off that one as use your new drive as a slave , sounds like the 500 gig drive is to much for your pc to use as a master drive

Having looked at what you have posted about the later version it could be that the installation files are corrupted or you have a virus, malware infection or a conflict with other installed software.
You stated that the later version runs ok on your laptop which is a higher spec than your workshop pc and that before you still had problems running the earlier version.
Putting in more memory will help but it could be that the cpu is at its limmit in handling the software but it still should install.
If you could get an other exe file and try that it might solve your problem and also scan your pc for any infections and also check for conflicts.

After linking them up other drive struggled to boot on own and when did after installing norton ghost wouldnt boot at all, then re-installed operating system wouldnt work. got it to work as a slave from other but that is same. tried it on own worked but alot of thing missing tried to install 3.24 says that integer thing going to format old drive and try again

If i format drive should get rid of virus? Never had problem on earlier version untill later dongle emulator installed. Had later version working till linked up hard drives. This is puzzling me

if you format hd and reinstall o/s the format will wipe the drive clean, then install all the neccasary drivers for the
o/s before you put in the exe file if it still will not run then its possible its corrupt.
