laptop takes 35mins to come on

    laptop takes 35mins to come on

    I had to boot my laptop from my recovery disc and have loaded all the latest xp updates and now when I swtch it on it takes 35 mins to load up.I think the hard drive is playing up,can anyone help.

    Try starting in safe mode. F8 when booting. See if the start up improves. If not then it sounds like th HD is on its way out as you suspect.

      Try the "chkdsk /f c:" command in cmd.

        If nothing works backup your files,repair the harddisk.
        And last thing is format harddisk install new windows.

          if the laptop runs fine after booting I wouldnt think it was a hard drive problem ? Bios perhaps ?

            start windows

            do antivirus malware and spyware scans (do in safe mode)

            defragment your hard drive (to fix file system)
            start-accessories-system tools-disk defragmenter

            check for bad errors on hard drive

            go to run type cmd then chkdsk if it finds errors found type chkdsk /r press Y for yes then restart the laptop then a light blue screen will come up on restart it will scan your hard drive and fix and problems.

            some bad cases of bad errors you might need recovery console.

            also can you gives some info on the hardware on the laptop that might help
