    Motherboard Swap, HELP!! :(

I Just purchased a new motherboard ASUS PSQ, to put all the components from my Dell Dimension 5150 (CPU, Hardrive, Ram, Graphics card, dvd drive)

The computer turns on the motherboard light comes on, and the fans spin, but the screen doesn't register and doesn't turn on with the computer so cant see nothing and also when i try to turn the computer off by holding the power button it doesn't do so, I have to unplug it.

What have I don't wrong is it because the drivers of the motherboard aren't on the hardrive.

What do I have to do to get it working again

    Someone please help me

hi NixxxE, i know its a pain but take the motherboard out of the pc and take everything off the board as well
set the board up out of the case , on its box it came in can just the power switch , 1 stick of memory and ya graphics card unless its built in and ur HD and see how you get on 1st ,

how are u connecting to the monitor vga DV Ior hdmi,
setting up the board that way will minimize any problems ,

I figured why i couldnt turn it off, its because i forgot to plug in the atx power supply..

But as for the mothercard it doesnt have on board graphics, i have to plug in the one off me dell machine.

Its a VGA monitor, I dont understand what you mean set it up out of the box, how will i turn it on

sounds like a powersupply issue to me.

Have you hooked up the powersupply correctly? i know this sounds like a moronic mistake to make but trust me ive seen numerous problems with people fitting the big block in right then wedging the 4pin square in wrongly.

Once your certain this is done correctly ensure youve got the case hooked up correctly.

Ive had systems in the past display the same problems because the hdd led jumper connection was the wrong way round, the reset button was miss aligned on the motherboard, the pc speaker was not connected and so forth.

Ensure these connections are correct, its a stupid fiddly job and one i personaly hate most and wish would be sandardised (meaning cases come with a single strip and it correlates perfectly with the standard fiting on a mobo.

Next ensure all your fans are connected correctly, i had an asus board that wouldnt fire unless it had a case fan hooked up? this was years ago but it seemed insane.

Once thats all set, then start plugging in your cpu, ram and video cards.

Get them all set firmly then move on to drives, hook up all your hard drives and optical drives, making sure each is powered and is connected the right way to the motherboatd (again sounds like a stupid thing but you would be surprised) IDE cables where the worst for this but ive still seen it happen with older sata stuff.

Next hook up all your pci gear and case interface stuff (like front soundports/ usb/ firewire and the like)

Then you should be good to fire it up.
He who laughs last thinks slowest.

Im sure its pluged in correctley, becase the motherboard light comes on and the cpu fan comes on when switched on, 1 thing i have noticed when i turn it on is the HD light on the front doesnt come on. and i cant seem to find a speaker port or wire for the motherboard

i had a simular problem, it turned out that the graphics card got a mardy on, pc booted up, no image on screen.

swapped graphics cards arounds, up came image, ended up untill got it working put an OLD vga card in the pci slots (NEAREST TO PROCESSER!)
              and it worked.

one of them odd things you can't explain.

oh, btw it's running behind me on a table, just the motherboard
propped up on a few small cardboard boxes

the only reason im doing all this is becase i bought a brand new gfx card and it wont fit in my dell case had to buy new psu, new case and now new MB, ive tried using the gfx card i had in the dell, which is pci-e card still nothing, but im going to see if i can find a normal PCI card

if that dont work god knows what im going to do, i dont want to be beaten and have to turn to an IT guru

                    slightly confused

                    1) does NEW graphic card have a power plug on it?
                    2) can you put OLD motherboard on newspaper and power up with
everything old except NEW graphic card? (then try OLD graphic card
                    again)

                    3) do you get nothing, not even bios screen?

                    4) does your monitor 'wake up' ie come out of standby
                    5) for diagnostic and helping the enviroment reasons, can you
turn off the power save feature on your monitor?

                    6) Dunno

all i can think of is your old memory is not compatable with new board, or
old memory in wrong slot, eg 2 not 1

or your monitor hates the new setup (why i keep a crt monitor)

or bios battery flat, or bios link out, for transport

                          or cpu in wonky

can you find on the internet the pdf file for your old board and your new board, then maybee somebody that cares (not me) can check the specs.

When you start it, do you hear any beeps in the system speaker ( if you got it connected: some MBs have it on board, some you have to provide external one). If not please double check the secondary power supply connector to be plugged int ( the 4 pin power connector).

                              Good luck!
