      it can be done because the missus cousin does it with a hdmi conection from laptop to tv
      did ya try connecting them to see what happens
      i no on my laptop which isnt hdmi i watch it on my telly all the time by using a rgb cable then select it with the tv remote
      then i just go into display settings on laptop and use the tv as my main monitor

      or ya can buy one of these

        You need to make sure first you have the correct codecs, i recommend KLite which can easily be found with google, and is usually bundled with media player classic home cinema.

        Next connect up your laptop with the HDMI to the TV, then select your TV source to which HDMI you plugged it in via a button on your remote or through the menu.

        Now you should see your background (if it's extended) or your normal desktop screen (if its duplicated) if you cant then either one of two things;

        1. Resolution isnt in range
        2. Your laptop isn't outputting anything yet

        If you are on vista or Win 7 goto:

        Start > Control Panel > Appearence & Personalization > Then under "Display" click "Connect to an external Display"

        If you only see one monitor there click "Detect", and chose your options accordingly from their.

        If you have it extended then when you open your media player, you need to drag it (usually unless set otherwise) off your screen from left to right onto your tv.
