    Graphics Card Failure

Hi - I have an IBM Netvista which I think the graphics card has packed up. The card is intergrated into the mother board so looks like I will be buying a new PC. Is it possible for me to retrieve the data from my C drive onto the new PC that I purchase? Also can anyone recommend a good replacement? Looking to spend between ?300 - ?500 not worried about a screen and will not use it for gaming just surfing, downloads and media server. Thanks.

as far as your hd goes put in your new pc as a slave drive that way you can move your files and then format it and use it for storage, just get the best spec you can afford on your new pc.

you can also do a motherboard upgrade.

obiovusl you need connect all your stuff, like you would a new computer, but when your ready to boot up for the first time, boot up to your windows installation CD. What you need to do is REPAIR your windows installation. This will leave your files, programs and registry alone, but will reinstall all the system files.

It is very important to do a repair, because when windows is set up it is installed specifically to the motherboard. If you try to boot straight into windows it will probably crash.

just out of interest does the motherboard have a agp / pci slot... a friend of mine had the same problem with a hp pavilion however it had a agp slot on the motherboard, so i installed a old nvidea 5200 and hey presto we had vision. might be worth a look.
        regards manx

Yes it does have a PCI slot - a mate of mine has got me an old graphics card so am going to try it tonight. I wasn't sure that it would pick up the new card without having to install some drivers.

            nice 1...

if you are using windows it should assign a general driver to the card... then can load the latest driver for the card later on.

            hope you get it sorted.

            best of luck... manx.
