    1st off. What os? Errors?

Try booting into safe mode with networking and download AVAST from there

I have had this problem in the past, its due to getting spyware on your comp and it stops you getting rid of it

If you still got ure problem after trying he safe mode approach, try tuning the firewall off, something could have messed with the settings blocking access..
