      Dell C610

      Hello

Took me a minute to locate your e-mails from the last time you helped me out.

So my sisters Dell C610 latitudes bios is in need of a password.
I can't remember where I got those extra 4 characters after the 7 character service tag from. I have seen '595B' in earlier posts but I am unsure if that is correct for my model.

      Service tag: 5NLKC11

Let me know if I need to dig deeper and figure out those extra 4 . . .

      Thanks again in advance Brother!!

Hey Xraydelta101 - many thanks for your response!

Gave it a shot without success BUT allow me to give some details that Probably will help with figuring out the C610 Latitudes attitude.

On page 7 (system security) of the BIOS (v. A16) it states:

"The 'ADMIN' Password' field is locked until the 'Configure Setup' field is enabled."

So I started with entering the info you supplied in the 'configure Setup' field with no success - then I tried the 'ADMIN Password' field but that (of course) isn't active.

But then I tried the 'Primary password' field and after entering the supplied info twice successfully that field went from disabled to enabled in a white font rather than the unactive blue fonts. I have since set the 'primary password' field back to disabled.

I believe if I can get the 'Config Setuo' field to accept a password I should be able to get to the point where I can clear the Admin Password as well. At this point the 'Configure Setup' field says diaabled and when I press the L or R keys it says 'Enter Config Password' with a full row of ******** in the password field unlike earlier when I accessed the Primary Password field which gave me a blank space to enter the password.

So basically it looks like this:

            **********System security************
            Primary Password: disabled (white font)
            Admin Password: enabled
            Configure Setup: disabled (white font)
            Configure Passwords: enabled

Let me know if I can reciprocate for your help i.e. paypal, etc. as it is bad enough today that I had to break it to my little Sister that her HD took a dump while I was running a disk imaging backup to try to save it before it Twacked itself to death but now this damn Dell BIOS wont even recognize any drives that I've put in.

            Thanks Again Brother

BTW: Is there some posting method for giving thanks because if you notice below my Avatar I've accumulated zero 'Thanks' and I'd like to change that.

to give thanks : on the bottom right hand corner of a persons post there are 2 tabs Quote and Thanks, clicking on the Thanks button will thank the poster.

are you using a QWERTY type keyboard
if you type in the wrong password 3 times does it give a system error number

                      Hey Smoggy

Just the Dell standard keyboard (double checked - no caplock on) as far as entering a "wrong" password 3 times I am unclear where I would be entering an incorrect password 3 times. Do you mean at the initial password request point AFTER pressing F2 but BEFORE entering BIOS or on page 7 of the dell's BIOS setup i.e. System Security.

Originally the primary password was disabled - when I received the password from D.K. forum it worked to enable and disable the primary password on the system security page BUT was ineffective with what is the real roadblock.....

On the system setup page after "primary password' and 'admin password' is the 'configure setup" option. It is set to 'disabled' (meaning it has disabled the making of any changes to the bios)
I can select it and press the L key to change it to read "enter config password" which produces 8 ***** in the password field - (Note: 6fazxu6h does not work no does entering an incorrect password 3 times - it just makes a shrill beep every time the password is entered incorrectly.) It has never given me any sort of error number either.

So I believe, as it states clearly in the right hand side frame of my Bios, that I need to enable the configure setup before anything will work.
Once I correctly enter this password then I can go on to the Administrator's password, which may or may not be the one you have already supplied me with. 6fazxu6h.

Is this something you've come across before?
Is it possible to obtain the "Configure Setup" password?

Regardless - Thanks for taking the time to read my crap!!
I would much rather have a conversation real-time or even
attach some photos or a walk through video as I feel that I may not be clarifying the problem well enough.

What really sucks is my sis bought herself a brand new laptop and it was stolen within a month and so she's back with the CrapTop . . .

I have never come across a configure set up password so at a bit of a loss for that
normally the Bios master password works for Bios and Admin password unless user has changed the Admin pass
some models give a system error number if wrong password is entered 3 times and a password can sometimes be calculated from it.
QWERTY keyboard is first 6 keys on top line as there are AZERTY and QWERTZ keyboards plus others
