i suppose you could try it as to wheather its a disc thats tied to one brand of pc or simply an installation disc for xp i do not really know but give it a go.
to add as the pc you are trying to recover is a laptop is there a recovery software built in to it which you should see as the laptop boots and access by pressing a paticular key as it boots.Last edited by dasteph; 20 November, 2009, 00:29.sigpicComment

go into your bios and check that the following are DISBLED
Shadow cache (also sometimes called: F000, 64k, F Segment, System ROM, Adaptor ROM, C000, C400 etc) just make sure anything SHADOW is disabled.
Virus checking.
VGA pallate snoop.
System Bios Cachable.
Video Bios Cachable.
Try again.
If you still get no joy try disabling L1 and L2 cache (sometimes called external)
Try again.
If you still have no joy, try disabling just about anything not relating to basic Ram and Hard Drive functions.
Try again.
If its still not working then that points to a RAM fault, north bridge fault, video board fault or in rare cases hard drive faults.
If things do work then restart and begin enabling higher features in the bios, one at a time untill it stops to pin the bastard down.He who laughs last thinks slowest.Comment
