    browser issues

this only happens on one of my laptops, the shoutbox does not refresh after a while and needs to be manually refreshed with an F5 when viewing DK. when opening links to threads it can take an age to open sometimes say that the server has timed out..

It is not a fault with any particular browser as it happens with Opera, Firefox and Chrome... All other sites are fine and having the forum IP in the host file makes no difference...

what have i missed, there must be something for me to tweak?

hi nige.. had the same thing 3 to 4 weeks ago... both with ff and opera... forgot to refresh and joined in a chat from 20mins ealier.... de ja veu....

long story short i used a 3rd part unistaller ( sorry but for the life of me can not remember which one it was ) removed all traces of both browsers then reinstalled opera... everything has been ok since. i'v not bothered to reinstall ff as it has been playing up of late... and i think it was at the root of my problem, although i have no proof of this.
hope this helps and you get sorted.
    regards @manx.

will look into that... i prefer to use opera as well as firefox is not all that and my IE has been shagged for ages.. This happen started with me about 4 -5 weeks ago but only on this lappy... had installed chrome since then and found the same refresh issue so i know its deeper...

will strip them out in a few days time.. can't do it right now as i have an exam to do in a couple of days an do not want to risk trashing my web access before then..

Found this if it's of any use m8:

          Internet Browser not Refreshing?

Is your internet browser not refreshing pages properly?
This is a common problem with most browsers, its just most of us don?t realize there is a problem as we don?t have to refresh web pages and look for changes very often.

The reason a browser does not refresh is down to its default settings which are set to make the chosen web page load faster, it does this by storing part of a web locally on your computer when you initially visit the page, then when you re-visit it uses these stored parts to decrease the pages load time, which can cause a problem when a webpage is frequently updated of not displaying the pages current information.
Basic ways of refreshing and reloading a web page are ?
          CTRL + R or F5 Key
Or by simply hitting the pages refresh button at the top of the browser window

Sometimes this may not always work, and it can be annoying having to keep doing this, but we have other more advanced ways to invoke this such as...

          Internet Explorer not Refreshing
Tools Menu ? Internet Options ? Browsing History - Settings ? and under Check for newer versions of stored pages: - Select Every time I visit the webpage

          Firefox not Refreshing
Type about:config in the URL window, and you will be presented with Here be dragons! ? select ?I?ll be careful, I promise?

Now look for browser.cache.check_doc_frequency ? double click on this and change the setting to 1

          Various options and meanings
          0. Check for a new version of a page once per session (a session starts when the first application window opens and ends when the last application window closes).

          1. Check for a new version every time a page is loaded.
          2. Never check for a new version - always load the page from cache.
          3. Check for a new version when the page is out of date. (Default)
There are a number of auto page refreshing add-ins available for Firefox that offer auto page refreshing and updating, although these can cause problems if any information is added from a browser interface.
          Note
If you have a slow internet connection setting up your browser to completely reload a page's content every time the page loads will be very slow.

Having used both Firefox and Internet Explorer for some time now I have generally found Internet Explorer to be more reliable when updating web pages.

          ---------------------------------------

Sorry it's a bit long, but hope it helps.
