This issue is often caused by either an incorrect setting in BIOS or a bad boot device, such as a bad hard disk drive. make sure your first boot device in the bios is your hard drive, if not possibly a new hd.loaded win xp on system for a mate,he was having loads of probs would not boot after system check managed to get everything up and running eventually. probs were when windows got to the section to format drive there was none visible had to reboot then format and load everything now ok except got error message( pxe-e61 media test faliure, check cable.)do you think this could be causing prob with bootup. im thinking cables loose on harddrive, what do you think.Last edited by dasteph; 26 November, 2009, 18:40.sigpic -
I have no experience with this error but this is what google throws up
check here Getting media test failure, check cable error when computer boots.
this links you to document CH000229 which states
This error can be caused by one or more of the below possibilities.
Floppy or CD that is not bootable is currently in the computer.
BIOS or CMOS setup is not setup properly.
Hard disk drive does not have bootable files on it.
The hard disk drive is bad or not connected properly.Comment

do a boot up into bios goto boot seting and set it to first boot hard drive second boot disk third if you have one floppy boot as most xps dont come with floppy driv forget that one if you had probs doing a restall check disk for scratches or grease if all ok and still have probs you might have some bad sectors on hdd so might need a new oneComment
