    Casefan Dilemma

    Hello all,

If your PC has room for 1 case fan, is it best to have a fan that blows in cold air OR blow out hot air?

    Thanks

imo out as you need to get the heat out so it can cool down

a case fan blows cold air in which is what you want to keep the system temp down.

if you look at the rear of case there are vent holes where the hot air escapes even if you fit a fan over these to draw hot air out you must have air flow inside the case to keep it cool.

            Out.

you must draw the air AWAY from the devices, leaving a lower pressure that draws COOL air in from other spaces. You don't suck air it, it'll stiffle the case and fill it with dust and dirt.

look at the heatsink fan - does it draw the hot air AWAY from the fins or onto them?

It's called circulation if the front fan draws, the rear needs to extract, and yes the hsf draws the heat, striaght into the circulation path of the front and rear fans.If theres only one fan fitted then that would have too draw air from the hsf. Therefore hot out.

The best thing to do is to target the heat source. If the fan is near the heat source then suck air out of the box, similarly if the fan is near the top of the case. If on the other hand the fan location is near the base of the box then suck in.
Have you not wandered why the power supply is generaly located at the top os the case. The hot air rises!
