My toshiba satellite wont start up, it switches on but then says it will start up in 30 secs, counts down but then keeps repeating over and over. I have just bought a new one but need to transfer stuffof the old one, any ideas, cheers

easiest way would be to take the hard drive out and put in into a usb hard drive caddy, you can then copy and paste it onto your new laptop

can you get into BIOS at all? If you can then I would suggest seelecting to boot from CD and try and boot your Windows installation disk on a live CD version of Linux. If so then it is a software problem and a reinstallation of an OS should sort it out.

If you can't get into BIOS then theres something wrong with BIOS that's preventing the computer from booting. I'd start by taking your BIOS battery out of the motherboard and leaving it overnight so it will reset the BIOS.

Let me know how you get on.

did you buy a official Toshiba one or some no name one, as I find with the "better" brands of laptops Tosh, IBM, Compaq the official ones tend to work than the cheap ones.

we will need the model of the laptop and any other relevant info

(model sticker on bottom or corner)

                      manual link.

TOSHIBA Satellite P200 - Satellite Pro P200 Series User's Manual Guide

might also need to do multiple things to reslove this issue.

1.reset bios its on the back it tell how to do it in the manual.
2.check the ram usually faulty ram interferes with the boot up setup.
3.if non of that works then the battery maybe the problem but it still should still boot from the main power.

if its brand new get it replaced power problems/faulty
