    System Back-up error.

    Ok guys advise please.
My 2002 (Medion) desk pc running XP home ED? started becoming very slow! As I had recently purchased a new L/top I decided to reformat the pc with a clean install using the Medion support discs
The main advice before doing so was back-up your files/system first.
Having done that, I managed a clean install.
The problem I have is that I did a full back-up 45 GB now if I re-install it all, I would replace all the errors back onto the drive.
The back-up I placed onto a large external drive.
    Q. Is it possible to open the back-up (windows system used) on the external drive to retrieve my document folders, if yes! How do I go about doing it?
If you don't ask, you don't get.

Ok , thanks for your assistance.
      The back-up is a windows system back-up.
The folder is there on the external drive, I open the folder then double click the file I named ?C? back-up, having done that an info tab comes up asking: ?Choose the program you want to use to open this file?
Q . Which program should I use to open it?
It is in fact 51GB The Ex? H/D is 1000 GB so plenty of space.
      Q. Will it open as a complete working system ??
If you don't ask, you don't get.

the software needed to restore your folders is the back up and restore utility which in xp home edition is on the xp installtion disc. this will have to be installed from the disc and once installed you can then choose which folders to restore to your internal hd, the following link will tell you how to install and use the utilty.

              Ok thanks again.
Followed instruction and loaded Win? back-up util?.
              There is also a read-file

Please refer to the readme for XP home edition for additional notes.

NTBackup Backup/Restore and ASR release notes

              Backup/Restore

              ASR

              1. ASR is not supported on home edition.

IF you install NtBackup from the CD to the Home Edition, ASR functionality will appear to work fine during
the backup session. Since the setup does not support ASR in the home edition, there is no way to initiate
the ASR restore in case of a disaster. If you need to restore from this session, install Windows XP manually
and then restore from the ASR media.

              2. Backup to CDRW

If you decide to backup to a CDRW, you cannot target that device directly. You must create a backup set of
650MB or less and backup to a file. After the file is complete, copy the file to the CDRW.

I am using Win Home edition  a have I blown It.?

When I click the back-up properties it now shows open with windows Back-up Util, when I double click the Back-up wizard appears, after selecting restore ,I get a no entries found!!!!
If you don't ask, you don't get.
