    VAIO laptop internet problems

Hi there, my cousin's laptop is having problems with the internet. She can access the web from Firefox fine, but things like Windows Live Messenger, McAfee antivirus, VAIO update and who knows what else all seem unable to connect to the internet. She says the problems started shortly after she tried connecting her laptop at her university's network (which she couldn't do), however the problems began a few days after that so I'm guessing that isn't the source of the problem.

I tried a couple of things such as uninstalling McAfee and disabling Windows firewall altogether, however WLM and the update still couldn't connect. I couldn't even check to see if other machines can access those services from the same router as I didn't have my own laptop with me, so I can't say for sure whether the HomeHub itself is blocking specific ports.

I thought I may as well ask in case anyone else has experienced this problem also. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks
    -Gary
