DVD RW drive thinks it is a cd drive ?!?1

WTF

My Samsung R60 Lappy came with a Hitachi HTS541680J9SA00 DVDRW/CDRW drive. No prob's for 2 years+. Today I stuck a cdrom disc in the drive. Now the drive thinks its a cdrom drive?
Still plays dvd movie files but will not recognise a dvd data disk?
Any1 know how to fix this one. Dont know if its bios, windows, driver or drive issue.

your drive cannot think its a cd drive otherwise it would not play dvds, possibly a corrupt disk or try updating the drives firmware in order for it to recognise the disk.

yes this is entirely possible, but don't worry it happens to some drives that get a little old, it wont break and isn't on its way out. I have had this problem a with a far few of my laptops and my current desktop. Even reinstall of os or update dvd drive firmware doesnt change it, but dont fix what isnt broken
