I had the same problem (among others). I had my Hp digital imaging monitor closed. So I opend this "monitor" and restarted my computer. And that is it.

have you tried using all the usb sockets on your pc, also plugged in any other peripheral just to make sure the connection on pc is ok.
if having checked the usb ports and still will not work uninstall it and install manually by going into cotrol panel panel and using the add a printer in the printer and devices.

If you are experiencing problems with connectivity you should try going to HP website or you could uninstall and reinstall drivers for printer, switch off PC - connect printer then switch back on and hopefully the PC will pick up printer.

you need to get the updated drivers for the root hub

this will be found as a chipset driver update on the motherboard's mfg website

install that then re boot and the usb should start working normally
