    dell factory image restore

hi i have dell xps 420 and i want to do factory restore as i'm having problems,
i've try to follow the manual to get into vista advanced boot options window by pressing f8 when the dell logo appears but when i press f8 nothing happens i get a quick flash of the black screen which could be the boot options window but can't tell to quick, then it just start up as normal.
i've try f8 so many times it's just do nothing!! any reason why it doing this?
and if i use the operating system disc is that the same (back to factory settings)
    hope someone can advise

    Hi funkysy
Firstly press f8 from startup continually quite fast and maybe this will work
Secondly if you know when you started to have problems, you could try a restore from an earlier date. SYSTEM RESTORE from start/progs/accessories/systemtools/ I think thats where it is in Vista.
If you can catch it quickly enough you can touch PAUSE/BREAK button to freeze the screen to see the message you are missing
Using the system disk will install windows back to factory and delete everything ........... be carefull.... Depending on disk/s supplied you might have to also install drivers etc. from another CD that may have been supplied.
Personally I would try RESTORE first

    Good Luck
