When you turn the laptop on press f2 and then move to security and look for password and try to remove it. If it worked hit the thanks button!

Why don't just remove CMOS battery and return it again?

do you have manual it will tell you how to reset bios which should work but
if that does not you might need to to find or get someone to use a default
or backdoor password into the bios to get in.

Remove CMOS Battery for half hour, all setting back to normal.
          Or
Google the model number, then use the JUMPER to clear cmos

remove the cap that covers memory and search for battery, I saw some hp and has there the battery with connector that you could disconnect....
do you remember what bios has??? (AMI or AWARD???)
if it is award, try the password AWARD_SW
there is also a big list with passwords!

                BIOS Password Cracked

I had the same problem for 2 years. None of the above suggestions helped for me, even using backdoor passwords and various password crackers. I've eventually cracked it.
Go to the link below and I'll help you out if I can. The page describes an HP BIOS but I think Compaq are the same.

Have you tried the HP website for info on changing Bios passwords, i`m pretty sure there is info on how to reset your bios password.

                      bios password

if you can re-flash the bios from dos. that may work, you`ll have to google the info for reflashing from dos, unless you already know what`s involved. it will involve creating a dos-bootable floppy or usb stick, plus editing the bat file
and the bios loader plus the correct bios. (flashing with an incorrect Bios may brick the Laptop)
