    unstable sectors

    i have a 2.5" 400gb external usb powered hard drive its a samsung HM400LI in a pluscom casing,any was working great but then i couldnt transfer some files off the hard drive kept getting I/O errors so took of everything that i could and re formatted the hard drive and ran hd tune it says there is un stable sectors on my hard drive is there a way to fix this or a work around like delete these sectors so the cant be used and just reduce the space on the drive?

    I am not a hard drive expert, but from what I know...

    I would imagine that your hard drive isn't reallocating the data because you are out of free sectors to reallocate to. This would indicate that your hard disk is developing bad sectors beyond the drive's ability to hide from the user. Taking a backup of your important data would be good, and if I am correct about the bad sectors, then if under warranty send it back for a replacement.
