please help

hi there. i have just bought a scrolling led matrix sign which has a serial rs-232 to rj-11 lead for programming. rj-11 into the sign. my problem is none of my laptops have a serial port. i do have a belkin usb to serial lead. the only trouble with it is the com port number is com14 and the software for the sign will only work on com1 or com2. there seems to be no way to alter this. i dont know what to do. i hope some one knows .and can help.

in device manager/com ports/properties/port settings/advanced it will enable you to change the com port number to 1 or 2 if they are not in use useing the drop down box which will list the currant port number

i have the usb adaptorwith me and have just followed your instructions. THANK YOU. i now have a usb serial port on com2. i do apreciate your help m8
