I would scan the machine for crap.. download some free cleaning tools and clean it, should sort it out..

          The home of Spybot-S&D!

SpywareBlaster | Prevent spyware and malware. Free download.

once installed, update them and run some scans and delete all they flag up... Do not delete these apps after as they will continue to protect you, update them and run them at least every two weeks..

If you still have problems after this, let us know and we can take you a step further.. But first things first, lets clean it..

              chech utilities

hi is your laptop running xp or vista?
if xp what i would do is upgrade to a higher IE explorer lets say IE6 to IE7 then i would uninstall the IE from add/remove programs->add/remove windows components and tick internet explorer to uninstall this will revert the default browser setting and should be repaired.......
